Her Name Is Inspiration

Trapped in my mind there is a girl
Held captive in a prison of glass
Never silent, never still, she paces about
Full of emotion, desperation, enthusiasm and hope

All day long she sings, cries, dances, laughs
Always strong
Always beautiful
All in a language I can’t understand

Sometimes she stares at me from inside her cage
And begins to speak to me, fervently,
Telling me things of great importance
But I can’t grasp her words
And her lips move in a pattern I don’t recognize

She sings songs of love, grief and joy
Burning full of immense passion
I yearn to know the lines of her melody
But all I hear is silence

Sometimes her hand strokes the walls
In sorrow, tears dripping down her face
Dreaming of freedom
But when I reach out to touch her angel face
I’m stopped by a cold hard surface
Disconnecting us

Everyday the same thing happens
And every time my frustration intensifies
Because I ache to understand, to help, to free her
But I know not how

There is a girl locked up in my mind
Her name is Inspiration
She longs for freedom
But try as I may, I can’t help her

She sings, but I can’t hear the music
She sobs, but I can’t feel her tears
She talks to me, but I can’t make out her words
I wish to release her, but I can’t find the key.

This poem is supposed to signify the feeling that we all get when we feel inspired to write something but we can't seem to figure out what to say.

Very beautiful and profound piece. It is filled with both angst and hope. Can be said about anyone: child, teen, adult.
