eulogy for Buddy

By
you didn't care much for
friendship, or entertaining me
in the slightest,
but that doesn't make my
regrets evaporate.
i still wished to
mend your rampant fin
as you fought to
splash filthy water
into my prodding pupils.
i used all
my dimes to show
you a home away
from flimsy plastic
bags tied with a
blue rubber band while
you checked out to
the farthest corner
of the pebble
-coated tank.
the stench of your
gourmet flakes were
not so bad - until
you quivered your
lip like an unfed
jungle cat.
i gave you more, too much.
