Remember your eyes and the shape of your name
When your pen sweetens, blooms in your hand.
Look not to the stars; they are white, distant.
To write of diamonds is also to write of coal.

When your pen sweetens, blooms in your hand,
Remember that the life in your hand is of carbon
Just like the diamonds and coal of which you write
You are empty space, stardust.

Remember, your living hand’s not just carbon
You’re more than spinning atoms.
Your empty space is full of stardust
You are glances, moments, fingertips.

You’re more than just your atoms
And there’s more than page to ink
There are glances, moments, fingertips
There is color, there is closeness

There’s more than just page to ink
More than white, distant stars
Write of color, write of closeness.
Write of your eyes and the shape of your name.
