Freestyle

August 19, 2008
By Auburn Powell, Fayetteville, NC

I step up on the block
Adrenaline rushes through my system
I'm ready to begin

Other racers step up boldly
My confidence reigns over them-
It's my time now

The gun sounds explosively
We all dive in, filled with excitement
My heart beats with the sound of a thousand drums

My arms propel me forward
While my legs push me harder
They haven't caught up

Time passes slowly
As I move on quickly
The noise is all drowned out

My heart pumps faster now
I push myself harder
Almost there

I'm drawing closer and closer
I authoritively pound the timer
Others follow closely behind

I have won the race
