Do You Know Who I Am?

Do you know who I am?
Or who I pretend to be
Do you know me by name?
Or just by what you see.

Do you know who I'm supposed to be?
Or what I'm supposed to do?
I was stuck here on this old earth,
With nothing to lose.

Or is that what the world says?
That we're all here for nothing.
It's all showbiz
Or are we here for a purpose.

Does the world that we live in today
See us as who we want to be
Or does it control what we do and say
Making us who they want to see.

I do know who I am
And I know who I pretend to be
I know myself only by name
And not just by what others see.

Teenagers these days are searching for who they are, and what they're supposed to be. We let the world influence us so much, when we shouldn't. We are who we are, and no one should be able to change us. I wrote this to all the teenagers out there having an identity crisis. Don't give up.

Amanda--this is awesome. There are so many people out there that have no clue who they are or why they are here on earth. I think this poem reflects who you are and I love how it ends with you saying that you know who you are, even if it's a different person than what everyone else sees. Hope to see more :)

AMANDA! I really really like it. That's so cool that it got put online! I voted five stars for it.
