Daddy This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Her yellow ribbon tied with purpose.
Today is a big day for a small girl
Time spent with this man is time
worthwhile.

Her dress ironed and clean, just like he likes.
Today means the world to a girl
Never spending time with this man is worth 100 dresses and 80 bows.

Her nice white shoes are fastened while
she waits.
The dance is at 6.
She awaits the moment spent with her hero.

Her purple Barney blanket covers her head to toe while she waits on the couch.
The time, half past 6
This is nothing new. He is out saving
the world.

Hair tangled, dress wrinkled, shoes off, wrapped in a blanket.
It is midnight and the door slams
He stumbles in and slurs,
“Daddy was saving a cat from a tree."
