"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." - Oscar Wilde

Was it in my head?
The burning sensation just below my fingernails
All those little noises
Distractions
Was I unfaithful?
Or was I ready with stories
I wanted so badly to hurt you
Entirely willing and eager to hurt myself in the process
I became obsessed
You became confused
I became deluded
You were willingly abused
We did this to each other
We did nothing but submit to nature
Our kisses were blisses like lethal near-misses
The kind that just collide with someone else

Was it all in your head?
The screaming
Each pinprick and pestilence that plagued you
Was every blow to the skull worth it?
Choose your fancy
Force your Fantasy
What have you now?
When you smell blood
Look Southerly
And if the wind catches your hair
Sending it between us
You know I’m there feeling ugly
Being the creature that I’ve always blamed on you
That I’ve been since conception
You and I are destined to futility
So get comfortable

When riots come for our heads
Demanding justice, requesting peace
Stay in one piece

One day we’ll burn all you can see
Kill every last heifer in this herd
Forget what you heard

Sometimes, you wake up and realize that who you are as a person is completely based on falsehoods. However, you're too lazy to do anything about it, so you just write a poem. This is that poem.
