Take Me Back...
Take me back to a time when this world made sense,
When life was easy,
And the only worry was if Tyler Morey was on the bus intending to beat me up that day.
Take me back to a time when I didn’t care,
If my hair was messy or if I matched,
To go somewhere.
Take me back to that time when we weren’t afraid,
To say, “Hi my name is Jenny, would you like to be my friend today?”
Take me back to a time when the snow was pretty,
And all you cared about was if school was closed,
Not if the roads were slippery.
Take me back to a time when life was simple,
A sentence was honest and truthful,
Without hidden meanings.
Take me back to a time when the world was innocent,
Everyone was your friend,
And there was nothing to fear.
Take me back to the Christmas, Easter, and losing a tooth,
When I would wait in painful anticipation for a magical creature to arrive.
Take me back to a time when I sang “Jesus loves me,” in the church,
And didn’t spend that hour wishing I was somewhere else.
Take me back to a time when summer was more than just a break,
But a new chapter in the adventures,
My siblings and I would make.
Take me back to a world that was much happier than this,
So full of life, so full of energy and love,
So full of childhood bliss.
