Hugs.
my maternal instinct dictates that I need to hold you now, and whisper
in your weary ears that it will be alright somehow
the space above my collarbone is for you to rest your head
and cry about the harder things that should be left unsaid
please don’t drown your sorrows in the depths of dark despair
serotonin has sought refuge from the beast within the lair
your shining, open, searching eyes are burdened with the thought
that everything you live for wasn’t worth it, all for naught
while I know that all you need is a hug, a kiss, a cup of tea
and a gentle reminder that you are loved and all CAN exist in harmony
curving fingers tremble softly as eyes gaze past the windowpane
I want to hold them to soothe the nerves that over your mind have toxic reign
Your mind’s a scary place right now, it’s boundaries stay unknown
So rest your cranium in the space above my collarbone
Every tear that falls from your eyes is a pain unspoken before
And know that if you need it, I will hug you evermore
