They Don't Know Me

May 14, 2008

People say I don’t fit in.
Maybe it’s true.
Maybe I am an outcast.
Maybe I am unique.
But, they don’t know me.

People say I have no friends.
Maybe it’s true.
Maybe I don’t get along with everyone.
Maybe I keep to myself.
But, they don’t know me.

People say these things.
Most people don’t like me.
Or so it feels.
They have no idea why I am the way that I am.
But, they don’t know me.

They don’t know the pain I’ve felt.
They don’t know how scared I’ve been.
They only know what they want to know.
They believe what they want to believe.
But, they don’t know me.

They believe if a person is different,
They don’t belong.
If they don’t conform,
They shouldn’t be at that school.
But, they don’t know me.

Jocks, sluts, stoners, nerds, preps.
They don’t know where to put me.
They can’t find a label for me.
So, they choose to overlook me.
But, they don’t know me.

High school is like a jungle.
Every day we play a game of survival of the fittest.
I put my best smile on,
And get ready to face the rumors, lies, and judgments.
If only they got to know me.

This will certify that the above work is completely original.

i liked this one a lot. it was really different than this other story i just read "survival of the fittest" but yet, it also had that same factor of non-acceptance and lonely.
