Beautiful Flower

Enthralled by her beauty
We long for her touch
All reason beset by the fire of lust
Will power diminished
Our hearts in full flight
We long for a glimpse
'Tis a beautiful sight.
At first sight of thee
My heart failed to combust
I felt not beset by the fire of lust
For she is a flower to the eyes of some
Yet, what is a flower
When the petals are gone.

The author's comments:
I will not directly reveal the message which I have hoped to convey in my work. However, in regards to the message, I would advise the reader to take note of the use of metaphors and imagery. I emphasize these two poetic techniques because they are the keys to unlocking the excitement or "movement of soul", which is necessary for the reader to understand and/or appreciate the work. This is my first try at publishing my writing, so feel free to critique or comment whenever possible.
Thank you,
E.T.
