To Live
A life of desperation,
The people I will never meet,
Alone beside my shadow,
A cross at my feet,
My ankles swollen,
Wrists bare,
A sign of worthiness,
Despair,
A place to show I was meant to die,
The time to show all the reasons why,
Along the canyon I meet,
I pick up the cross,
Drag my feet,
The crisp air of the canyon mist,
I spread my wings out,
Fully equip,
As I fall four feet, six, ten,
I glide my wings up with my steady span,
Floating away into the sky,
I reach the heavens,
Cross to the gods,
My wings soaring,
My spirit now high above,
I have reached my god with honor,
I take him to my broken soul,
I let him in,
Weak and old,
As the touch soothes my heart,
My swollen ankles,
Mending heart.
As my soul becomes stronger,
My wings flap to a beat,
I soar down to earth,
With my lover waiting for me.
