The View From the Top

Every once in a while
When I’m overburdened by life
Stressed, confused, lonely,
I take a trip out to my backyard.
I climb the little tree overlooking my mother’s garden
And I sit, contemplating the mysteries of the world.
Though the tree isn’t tall, my outlook is changed.
I am a giant in a young forest.
Squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits look up at me,
then scamper away as if in terrible danger.
The change isn’t dramatic but I feel that is the beauty of it.
Sometimes it doesn’t take much to alter our views
It just takes the courage to search for a fresh perspective.
And the ability to realize that ultimately nothing changes.
