"Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die."

Sanguine stained and wholly pained, I lie here for the last.
Sanguine stained and wholly pained, and He has turned his back.
For I was there that day of days with weeping eyes downcast,
Yes I was there that wicked day when He did speak his last.

For we had done a hellish thing to kill our brothers bold,
Yes we had done the Devil's deed to turn His heart so cold.
And all did pray in vain I say for none would hear us weep,
From heaven our eyes were turned away and cast to the dead at our feet.

Corpses, corpses all about and weeping I turneth away,
Corpses, corpses all around and saddened he turneth to say,
"Through heart and hand I taught thee peace, and wished for n'more than life,
With hand and heart I gave thee start upon the pathway to angels bright.

But you do curse me children dear with the blood that spilleth so free.
I shall curse thee children here, for you ne'er more shall I see."
Our eyes set firm upon the Earth, stricken from heaven are we,
And sight no more may greet mine eyes of beauty and Majesty.

Sights instead of vanquished dead that scream with pale lips thin,
Lips of death here breathe out breath and curse us for our sin.
Corpses, corpses all stand up maws op'ed to curseth me,
"Corpses, corpses are we all for he ne'er more shall ye see."

This piece was written after I did some pretty extensive research for school into the particulars of the American Civil War. It's some brutal stuff to say the least.
