Summit

July 22, 2008

The snowy peak ascends into the air
piercing the cloudless sky with its power.
Drawing awed spectators into its lair
its splendor so great it makes all life cower.
Blooms below defer like students in class,
guardian birds circle as a duty.
Taking a picture would shatter the glass
because you cannot capture its beauty.
But a surging tempest expels its wrath
Its electric fingers choke the summit;
Heaven’s floods give Mountain’s ego a bath
and the acme’s domain seems to plummet.
When the fury ends and the sun returns
a mighty mountain wears scars from its burns.
