"Why do we fall, Bruce?"

My head on the pillow is peaceful alright
Especially after a really hard night
But when my eyes shut out all of the world
The thoughts in my brain begin to swirl

I dream of green lollipops dancing around
While purple elephants ride on a clown
Spiders are friendly and give me a hug
I never would have thought that of a bug

I dream of children playing with toys
Arguing, fighting, making much noise
Their parents sit, smile, and wave
They pay no attention to their youngsters’ raves

I dream of a world where there’s nothing good
A man hurt on the road, in his own neighborhood
But people pass by like he is not there
And when he faces death, nobody cares

I dream of a man with a knife chasing me
There is no escape, no way to get free
He rounds a corner and plunges the blade
Deep in my heart, no one comes to my aid

I dream of a place where nobody wants
Where nobody cares and only can taunt
The dreamers who dare to dream all these dreams
So they hide in their shells, alone so it seems

Where are you dear dreamers, is this just a dream?
Where are you when people need a sun beam?
Rise up from your slumber, rise up from the ground.
Just rise, say something, just make a sound.

I've noticed how watching the six o'clock news keeps getting more and more morbid. It's scary to me. This poem is basically me reflecting on the good to the bad and how it can change quickly...like a dream to a nightmare.
