Branched lightning emerges from a plot of shadow
Water bursts from under the stones
The riptide rages war against the coast
The world is left alone.

Crude incisions formed in the earth
Streaks of hail through mysterious night
Moonshine distilled over the horizon
Reveals the flurry in its light.

Fog rolls in upon the dim night sea
Indigo waves collapse upon the shore
I remain silent as I stand amidst
The greatest tempest I have seen before.

The author's comments:
We were doing a poetry prompt in our creative writing class, and I was so distracted by the raging storm outside that I couldn't let the opportunity pass.
