Running From Reality
I’m not just another short story in another collection
There’s a lot that you miss when you see your reflection
Like the scars on your back and the curls in your hair
I find myself relating to smoke in the air
Running from reality by filling myself with you
The escape that you offer is scary and new
We both have memories we’d be better off without
Let me smoke you in so I can breathe me out
Everywhere I look there’s something to remind me
Throw yourself in the picture and blind me
You know what it’s like to need a distraction
Slowly making me stronger for your own satisfaction
I didn’t know if you were the sickness or cure
You say its dangerous to be unsure
But you have faith that I can borrow
I’m ready to accept today and fight for tomorrow
Half open eyes with dust in our faces
Got used to looking in all the wrong places
Finally the air is clear
Something was missing without you here
Against all odds and at just the right time
You pushed me off of my solid straight line
One thing I’ve been wondering all along
Tell me honey, what took you so long?
