Those who do not learn from history, are condemned to repeat it.

Hire? No, that’s not the term.
Just ask nicely, and I’ll confirm
To follow you to wherever you travel
Any of your adventures you’ve yet to unravel

Tell me to wait, and I’ll stay right here
So when you come back, the coast will be clear
Tell me to stay close, I’ll be your shield
Though I may ask for a weapon to wield
Tell me to stay back and I’ll be a brick wall
We have to watch the rear, after all

If you tell me to just go on home
Then so be it, my house I’ll roam
But when you come back, feeling hollow
I'll fill the void, and you, I'll follow
It’s not an obligation to follow you
It’s just something I love to do
Even through all the perils, I ask no pay
So come on, let’s go, it’s a brand new day

A short poem about the loyalty of one person to another, to accompany them on their adventures while asking nothing in return.
