Stars

Twinkle little star
Shine your brightest light
Twinkle little star
Glow into the long, long night
One, then ten, then thousands
Glistening for hours on end
Sparkling just like his eyes
The lost eyes of a friend
Many a night ago
He slipped away upon a cloud
Oh how the jealous angels beckoned
Sweet songs of sirens sung loud
Away he drifted into the stars
Never again to be heard or seen
And his wonderful shimmering eyes closed
As he entered his final dream
At night I sit out in the yard
Listening to the crickets ring
Remembering his light-hearted laugh
The way he talked, the way he walked, the way he sing-ed
Long I stare into the night
Wishing he was by my side
Sadness lingers in my heart
My tears are hard to hide
I wish so hard upon the stars
But knowing he’s beyond the dawn
I miss you so much with all my heart
My darling Peter-bread is gone
Twinkle little star
Shine your brightest light
Twinkle little star
Glow into the long, long night
One, then ten, then thousands
Glistening for hours on end
Sparkling just like his eyes
The lost eyes of a friend
