In the Heart of the Wilderness

You come here to be alone.
A place you can think,
Or just let everything go.
In the heart of the wilderness.

A place to lay and rest by night,
To stalk and hunt the elk by day,
Who live everyday of their lives--
In the heart of the wilderness.

You sleep in a make-shift camp.
All you have is the starlight.
Plus a quick little fire for warmth.
In the heart of the wilderness.

Through sun and through rain,
Through ice and through mud,
Through mountains you travel,
In the heart of the wilderness.

You live here for days on end,
You could turn back, but why?
This here is where you love to be.
In the heart of the wilderness.

Just you and one companion,
Your one old faithful horse.
Your rifle for food, and time.
In the heart of the wilderness.....

The author's comments:
I love Montana, the Rocky Mountains are my favorite place in the world! I haven't been there in a while so I decided to write about it. My dad and brother both worked on a ranch out there and one day I may also. I have heard many hunting stories from the mountains and I have gone horseback riding through the mountains, so I have a good idea of what it's like. Please rate and comment!
