like the roaring thunder
and pounding rain
the sound drowns out
all that is sane
the sound is a rhythm
and exhilerating song
a turning point
of right and wrong
a striving moment
in a suffering life
the sound cuts through
like a sharpened knife
the sound has feeling
it listens; it learns
the sound has meaning
it hopes; it yearns
the sound has no end
no middle, no start
the sound is the beat
the beat of my heart
