Smiling Eyes
Your bushy, brown eyebrows and your prickly face,
Your ranger blue eyes and your ears that always listen to me—this is you,
this is my Dad.
Your ranger blue eyes watch me as I grow older,
The baby of the family,
So hard to let go of.
Your ranger blue eyes watch the birds,
The cardinals,
And the blue jays.
We brush our feet through the colorful leaves
as we walk through the plethora of blocks on an autumn’s day.
I retell a joke that was once funny and I know how you feel;
Your eyes smile.
You listen to me and try not to laugh,but your eyes smile.
Your ranger blue eyes smile,
so I smile.
