Our Feet Thump-Thumped

May 4, 2008

Our feet thump-thumped
On the crumbled rain-splashed pavement,
And my heart thud-thudded
As we walked with fingers twisted.
We tap-tapped in rainbow puddles
Made of gasoline and freedom,
And your car putt-puttered
As you drove through yellow lines.

The parking lot sat sizzling
With me right in the middle
As backward raindrops sighed around me
Like invitations to the clouds.
My car door snapped wide open
As I flew in different pieces,
Your smile still resounding
Like an echo in my mind.
