Died in My Arms

May 1, 2008
By Jen Kochie, Pawleys Island, SC

I remember the way he held me close
Carefully holding me as if I may break.
Now it is he who has broken,
This is all too much more than I can take.

Our days together in all were short,
But day by day they were long.
I never thought that one day would come
Where I would have to face a day without him.

They came like vultures;
They pried his limp body from my arms.
Now, under our tree, he lies six feet under
And I fear I am not too far.
