Lost Cause

Love is but a pointless thing
that can bring about only pain.
The bells that do ring
stop at the sound of rain.
The fun does not last long
but in time slowly will disappear
to leave one simply wrong
about the ones they held dear.
The joys did not last.
The pain was unavoidable.
It all comes at us too fast
to be truly comprehensible.
The pain lasts for days which turn into weeks
and in turn these dreadful weeks compile into years.
What once made our hearts so horribly weak
is what brings about our fears.
