Ode to Hair
You sweep my cheek,
I feel softness cradle my head.
Why you are different colors, lengths,
something for everyone.
Expressing myself through you.
You need care, like a human.
Cleaned, primped, and fed to shine.
Need a treat every once and a while.
You are as real as a pet, love and care.
Why must others lose you through sickness?
If they can’t have any, then we must share.
I can’t imagine a day with out you.
You get sudsy in the shower,
silky in the humid summer wind,
you sing when you feel at your best.
But how come you must cry in the winter?
Snow flakes suspended in the air,
push and shove to land on you. Melt,
to dissolve like the moon in the sky,
slowly fading. So why are you not satisfied?
You run laps through my fingers.
As you slide down my shoulders.
Sometimes curly, sometimes straight.
Sometimes up, sometimes down.
I toss you back so I can see,
but I still adore you, you know that.
You change any appearance,
from good to bad, from bad to good.
One of the most diverse pieces of me.
You make me late in the morning,
but that just might be a sign, that I need
to tend to you for life, as a job,
maybe others will agree...
