I wear the mask that leads and strives,
It covers my weaknesses and conceals my lies,-
This act I play to obvious chance;
With stiff and exhausted legs I dance,
And try with plentiful adversities.

Why would I try any less,
In adding to my chaos and stress?
Nay, let them only follow me, while
I wear the mask.

I smile, but, deep down, I’m terrified
To weaken myself would break my stride.
I sing, but oh, the day is long
Beneath my deceit and strain I’m strong;
But allow them to observe me,
I wear the mask.

This a mimick of Paul Laurence Dunbar's famous "We Wear the Mask".
