Rocks, colors smeared on,
Tell stories of their hunting.
Nature inspired

As time had passed, rock
Was broken instead, making
Art of Tomorrow

A picture became
A word, words form ideas,
Ideas made art

Reed presses into
Clay, writing has now begun.
Thanks, Sumerians

Art covers stonewall
For the dead, next to corpses
In the soft limestone

Hairs soaked with black paint,
Characters are painted now,
The East has now formed.

Phoenicians create
Phonetics, now sound marks word
Not the idea

Alpha and Beta
Become alphabet, Homer
Can now write of Troy

Middle East then is
Shaped, Hebrew and Arabic
Forge our religion

Romance becomes real,
Latin forks to Spanish,
French, and Italian

Paper then travels
Near and far, from China to
Spain into Europe

Fibers soak with ink,
Romeo and Juliet
Crafted by Shakespeare

Finally our works
Travel across sea, Explore
Beside Columbus

Washington fights for
The art of America,
Freedom expresses

Words mold our anthem
In eighteen-twelve, star and stripes
Sail o'er McHenry

Anne Frank made her art
She wrote in her diary
The horror was heard

Fingers meet plastic
As art is made on screens, now
Typing our fiction

Covers to velvet
Curtains, pages to the screen
Books become movies
