You Think You Know

April 25, 2008
By Kirsten Barkin, Henderson, NV

You think you know who I am
That I’m exactly what you see
But what you’re really seeing are
The many masks of me.

I change them all the time
In almost every place
I change all my styles
To fit this human race.

Right now I’m bright and happy
Then I’ll be sad, and cry
Here I’m loud and noticed
Now others pass me by.
You’re all so quick to judge me,
Like I’m an open book.
But once you’ve come and met me
You’ll see that I’m not how I look.

So though you think you know me
One day you’ll come to see
That you’ve actually been living
with the many masks of me.
