No Sleep in the Safest Place
Beeping of the monitor
keeps me awake
they pump me with medicine
is it a mistake?
Running doctors
and straight-line squeals,
people crying all around
I’m wondering how sleep feels.
Days pass slow and
my mind drives faster,
losing all control
the safest place turns into disaster
I’m half asleep
unconscious to most,
stuck in an all-night party
and Insomnia’s the host.
They offer earplugs,
but they can’t cover the screams;
they offer eye masks,
but light seeps through the seems.
Drugged up to go to sleep;
lights fade and blur,
the medicine’s…taking…effect
I wish things back…to what they…were.
