A racket in my hand,
Light as fine sand,
I stepped on the court,
Feeling very short,
I face my first rival,
And doubted my survival.

Badminton coursing my blood,
I fell with a thud,
Gone was the first point,
Oh no! My ankle joint.
I sprang up, ready to reign,
Trying my hardest, despite the pain

The serve to me,
To be, or to flee?
Suddenly I’m alive,
My inner player has arrived.
I dominate the court,
Badminton is my sport!

Easily winning the match,
That medal will be mine in a catch!
I saunter to the next game,
“Bring it!” I proclaim,
My confidence gone in a flash,
Oh, this terrible opponent can smash!

Quick on my feet,
To every hit, I meet,
I shall not prevail,
But this just may be an epic fail,
Giving this game my best,
The crowd begins to jest.

Last serve, game tied,
I try not to hide,
Her serve, confident and strong,
My hit, hard and long,
Her return, oh no, a smash,
But in her face I do bash.

The crowd goes wild,
I try to be mild,
But when the medal is mine,
I cannot help but shine,
I’m number one, at the top,
Now I’m the one no one can stop!
