- What Matters
We're All Liars At Heart
I said I loved you,
But I don't know what love is.
I said I'll always be there for you,
But baby I'm no whiz.
I can't know when you're in trouble or hurt,
When I didn't even know you have an uncle, Burt.
What I'm trying to say is that yeah we lie,
We cheat, we lose,
And surprisingly we cry.
But the thing that really matters is how we react,
How we let you know that we love you back.
And so while we're all liars at heart,
I first want to take this back to the start.
No not between mom and dad,
Not you and me,
But all the way back to Adam and Eve.
They were the first and set the path,
For evil and hunger,
And for a blood bath.
They messed up big and they were the first,
So how could we not mess up and burst?
We bust into lies and tales and shame,
And then we just find something else to blame.
But know this my dear,
We do it for love,
For we do not know how to raise you above.
We lack the power to truly do good,
For there is no superhero under our hood.
So we fill you with promises that we can't keep,
Because all we think about is you when we sleep.
So I don't really know where to start,
Except to say that we're all liars at heart.
