Unknown Silence

March 26, 2008

My heart was beating as fast as a drum,
Beating, beating.
It’s silent and eerie,
The room filled with a frigid, somber sensation.

The sound of nothing,
Beating, beating.
An alcove of silence,
An awkward nothing.

The flowers abundant,
The feeling of sorrow.
The black coffin,
A reminder of pain.

That something lurking,
You break out and cry.
Beating, beating,
An unknown silence.

Seeing the people,
They make me think of her now.
The good and the bad,
I have no choice.

So, what to do,
With all of these people?
All of these emotions,
The unknown silence.

Emily- I love this poem. When I first read it in Hilton Head I just couldn't believe how it made me feel-what a wonderful job. Keep on writing! You have a true gift.
