After a Long and Terrible Day...

After a long and terrible day of school with many thoughts on my mind I took a seat at my desk and began to ponder. Grades are awful, I am homesick, and hockey is not much better. What do I do? Poetry; ask anyone and they could not see me being a poet, but deep down it is something I truly enjoy. Poetry takes my mind off of everything and puts things in perspective. Thinking about my situation and looking at the television screen it was nothing compared to our soldiers in Iraq. I was inconsiderate, worrying about my problems when there are people in the world who have it much worse. I salute you; you who serve this country and fight for our freedom. Though I was stressed and not happy with the way things were going I decided to write a poem about you, not myself. It is you who lets me be who I am. Taking my mind off things by writing poetry is just what I needed, but it was not about my problems but the struggles you face in Iraq.

The faces of Americans showed panic
Was it another disaster like the Titanic?

Americans showed many tears
Flight 11 showed nothing but fears

September 11th came as a fright
The towers were gone before it reached night

2001 was a disastrous year
The entire world knew what was near

War came as no surprise
Five years later soldiers fight for their lives

Americans are full of anger
Bin Laden is no stranger

The world is tearing itself apart
But wars do not end, indeed they start

Threat and intimidation
North Koreans recognize no negotiation

Even with the danger of fire
United States won’t break the wire

Fighting against Terrorism continues today
Sadly Americans may not get their way

Will any nation know peace in its day?
If not what danger is the world in tomorrow and today?
