Cocoa Beach

Brown sand covers the earth.
A line of seashells outline the waters edge.

White topped wonders beat against the land
Revealing hidden life as they sink back into the body.

Seagulls wait for an unsuspecting boy
To temporarily abandon his French fries.

Pelicans float atop the water
Awaiting a stray fish.

Crabs race for their burrows
As children chase after them.

Motionless bodies are spread as far as the eye can see.
Lying on towels and using too little protection from the sun’s harsh rays.

Swimmers dodge rolling beasts as
Surfers socialize, sharing oncoming waves.

Children build sand castles
Just out of the waters’ grasp.

Tourists stand on the pier in awe at the sight
Of this beautiful beach which is awaiting their company.

I delight in this scene from atop a dune
Enjoying the sun’s warm beams
And the cool spray of the sea.
