Dying Love

Brown and wilted
Cracked and stiff
Crunched between pale fingertips

Colorless leaves
Thorns still sharp
Petals protecting a delicate heart


The author's comments:
One day I was walking in a field when I saw a dead rose lying on the ground, but it seemed to be glowing. I carefully peeled back the cracking petals- And a very much alive firefly flew away.
