Ode to pizza
Whose curds of milk, whose crusts of bread,
Make students flock, their hearts a twitter?
When girlfriends left, and roomies failed,
T’was only you who delivered.
Blest! You I unconcernedly find
all hours, days and nights other stores slept away
My health of body and peace of mind
But a phone call, night or day.
When I’m empty, who fills me?
Who nourishes me when I am weak?
Who gets me through the late night hours
When I need to study, or can’t sleep?
In winter you warm me, fresh from the the hearth?
In summer, you cool me, wrapped in foil, straight from the fridge.
How many accounts have you balanced?
How many club meetings did you feed?
How many depend on you, tasty pizza,
To get them through the college years?
Yet when I need you, you’re always there
Just for me
