Here’s a shout out to fancy dining ware
Laid out for all to see.
They seem to be Mom’s most prized possession
But plastic forks are fine with me.

The forks, the spoons, the knives, the plates
Each has its own spot in its own row.
The cup goes here, the plate is next…
All things I somehow forgot to know.

My grandma, my aunt, my boyfriend’s parents
All people who get the honor of this treat.
“Do not be rude, please watch your manners
And do not complain about the meat!”

So when the fancy night is over
And everything is put away
I can breathe a little sigh of relief
And save up my manners for another day.
