“If you would be pungent, be brief; for it is as with words as with sunbeams. The more they are condensed, the deeper they burn.” – Robert Southey

Useless thoughts and
Empty hearts
Take the thrill out of the guess
Follow crooks through cobbled paths
Until their cardiac arrest
When public servants raise their hands
They cry: “Oh God, it’s such a shame”
But look, the glimmer in their eyes
We do not fall for such charades
Wash their hands of blameless blood
The guilt is now not theirs to take
String the names up with the news
They claim a true, honest mistake
Knot the story up just right
Present the case,
Impress the judge
Nothing left but to respite
Breathing venom in their lungs
Claiming change is all they need
It leaves us nothing but afraid

Then wrap a ribbon on release
We do not fall for such charades.
