Diamond in the Rough
I know that I will never find
A diamond of the purest kind
 It simply isn't good enough
To be a diamond in the rough

Each diamond has a different mold
Each diamond shows a spark of gold
What makes each diamond shine so bright?
The treasure pure, the point of light?

Each diamond has a unique glow
Pure as crystal, white as snow
 The beauty which exists below
Lies in the face we never show

No diamond lacks a sparkle bright
A piercing glow that breaks the night
A light which shines when times are grim
A light which shines as bright skies dim

Yet no true diamond, pure or plain
Can ever come into the rain
And not confess, beneath the shrouds
 Lie dreams, the evanescent clouds

The dreams which we cannot achieve
The dreams which make us ache and grieve
Yet though the dreams seem ever far
They show us who the diamonds are
