I am From Me

Red jerseys, hard helmets, and a giant horseshoe,
I am from a world of scarlet and gray.

I am from big curls and tiaras;
Glamour and frilly dresses draped around me.
Jeff towering and broad,
Tracy small and soft.
I am from a house of love and caring.

Rollin green acres,
Sun-ripened black raspberries.
I’m from long summer days
Playing in the country.

Yelling and jumping,
White sneakers and bouncy ponytails.
Competitive cheering filled my youth.
In high school not I,
Who made it to the sidelines.
Singlets and knee braces now fill my time.

I’m from melody and harmony.
Soft wood under my chin,
Horsehair in my hand.
Music dances around me and plays in my soul.

I’m from relationships,
Both good and bad.
I’m from strong loving arms wrapped around my waist,
Soft warm kisses planted on my lips.

I am from me,
Everything I am and everything I want to be.
