I Need a Friend

February 24, 2008
By Kathryn Marrinan, Hyde Park, NY

I need a friend to love me
A friend to understand.
I need a friend to hug me
A friend to hold my hand

I need a friendly shoulder
A smile to dry my tears.
Who will help me move the boulder
Of all my pain and fears

I need someone to laugh with
Who will be there when I cry
For support in everything I do
Even through a failed try

I wish someone would ask me
How my day has been
Then they'd wait to hear me
And, in turn, I would ask them.

I need someone to party with.
To dance with through the night.
And in my times of trouble.
Will help me find the light.

But now I really think of it.
I have this friend. I do.
I'm willing to admit.
That this friend I have is you.
