Roads and Riverblood
The best laid plans of mice and men Always fall astray.
Everyone wants streets of gold, but Nothing gold can stay.
This road I try to pave- I know not Where it leads
For a while I carve it straight,
But then a river intercedes.
The river flows around the bend and Down the babbling brook
I follow the water down to try and Take a look,
But then I tumble upon rocks and Lacerate my knees
They dip into the water, and then My river bleeds.
Limping down the river bend my Journey seems but lost,
My road has been abandoned and my Stomach's all in knots.
I labor and I wander on,
For about a mile
Then the sun creeps out
Across my little Nile
It shows the road I made,
Unfinished though it be
And I see that going straight, Would've plunged me to the sea.
I rest by the river mouth, and Though my body's sore,
My bloodied river has taken me
Somewhere better than before.
