I Am From

March 4, 2008

I am from that broken home on the corner.
I am from that tattered picture,
From that friendly woman,
From that man who left.
I am from the wind that touches your cheek.
I am from the ocean that caresses your skin.
I am from that broken family,
From that growing sadness,
From that dwindling spirit.
I am from the music you sing along with.
I am from those rolling hills you long to visit.
I am from that diversified country,
From that cold-hearted history,
From that independent nation.
I am from that broken home on the corner.
