walking steady
alone
nothing to fear
and then the lights
go out
i stumble
walking unsteadily
seeing faces in shadows
nothing there
i say
and then a feeling
of dread
what’s behind me?
nothing my mind says
but instinct says someone
something
panic wells inside
must keep going
i’m tempted to look behind
but i don’t
i run
too afraid to see
what
was behind me
