The Column and the Boat

June 26, 2008
By Nora Sternlof, New London, CT

We sailed on a column of shimmering waves,
the sun, my boat, and I,
we felt the dart-dash of the wind
as we caressed a crease of sky,
that had fallen to touch the cauldron of water
that tossed us all about,
as if beneath us were fallen stars
engaged in some honour-bout.
We rolled on a column of shimmering waves,
the sun, my boat, and I,
we felt the dart-dash of the winds
as we caressed a crease of sky.
