I can not reach out
I am stolid, stoic
To reach into the depths
of someone's heart
is to be burnt
So my hand retracts, stays put,
afraid of rejection
So my heart remains closed
afraid of misunderstanding
To be apart
is to be safe.
To be safe
means to be alone,
cold,
without the flame
of another's heart.
