If we were a movie, where would we go?
If we were a movie—I guess we won’t know.
If life was a movie, would we get where we want?
If life was a movie, would it ever stop?
On the set, the cameras would start
You would try to act straight from your heart.
The marker would snap “Quiet on the set!”
You’d recite your lines—you wouldn’t forget.
If you made a mistake, you could just hit rewind—
Start again and leave it all behind.
You’d just look at the lens
And announce that you’d like to start over again.
But what will happen when the movie comes to a close?
Is it finished? Has your story been told?
Your life would be done and the credits would roll,
In your place would be a dark, empty hole.
The movie screen would fade to black
And only the box office would keep track
Of if you’re worthy of another shot—
You wouldn’t get a say in whether you’d stay or not.
Life would be a project, always being remade
The writers making changes you’d do your best to evade.
You’d live your life, scene by scene
But you’d always wonder, “What does it mean?”
