Supper Is Served

Standing in front of the class as they wait and listen,
I read my paper and think about the criticism ahead.
The reading is finished the hands shoot up,
After every comment I begin to cringe even more,
If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I stroll down the court watching little kids go back and forth,
The fans are roaring as the shot goes up.
All eyes on me, waiting for a foul call.
The pressure is too much and I become a deer in the headlights.
If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

We ride back on the bus after a huge victory,
Celebration begins by performing our usual ritual.
A momma joke here, a fat joke there,
The jokes take their toll and I sink down in the seat.
If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I rush through the door after a long day of school.
The aroma of fresh food fills my nose.
I trot towards the kitchen to see what’s cooking,
The stove is on fire and mom is freaking out!
The heat is too much, I’m leaving this kitchen!
